Dr. P. Chandrasekaran assumed the charge of the post of Director (Exploration & Development) of Oil India Limited on 01.04.2017(F.N.). Prior to
assumption of this charge, he was holding the post of Basin Manager, KG-PG Basin, ONGC, Chennai since July 2015.
He completed his post-graduation in Geology from Madras Presidency College in 1983 and subsequently acquired a Ph.D from IIT Roorkee
on the subject “Petroleum Prospect and Risk Evaluation”.
Dr. Chandrasekaran has served in ONGC since April 1984, and started
his career at Mumbai as an Operations Geologist. From then on the experiences have been multifarious, in various facets of petroleum exploration
like Operations Geology, G & G data interpretation, reserve estimation, petroleum risk and economic analysis, exploration management including
drawing short, medium and long term plans, monitoring of exploration activities, Exploration Portfolio Management. During his initial tenure at
Chennai in KG interpretation group, he was closely associated with discoveries like Pasarlapudi, Mandapeta, Ravva. Subsequently he worked on
Petroleum Risk & Economic Analysis at Dehradun, data interpretation of Assam Arakan Fold Belt at Jorhat for prospect generation and again
at Dehradun in E&D Directorate. He has handled all types of techno-economic evaluations under varied types of fiscal regimes like Nomination,
Risk Service Contracts, Production Sharing Contracts etc. He also evaluated most of the foreign acreages for ONGC Videsh that were on offer
during the nineties.
He played a key role as member of the core team for evaluation of the blocks that were on offer
under NELP I, II & VII to IX. He was a key member of the core team that formulated the Perspective Plan 2030 of ONGC. He was closely associated
with the exploration and development activities of KG and Cauvery Basins and also deepwater exploration during his tenure at E & D Directorate, Dehradun.
All such learnings and experiences culminated in his being appointed Basin Manager of KG Basin, one the most challenging, happening sedimentary Basins of India.
